Ahmedabad, 17/10/2024 : A team of officials from the Parliamentary Official Language Committee conducted a Three-day inspection at various Central Government offices and institutions in Ahmedabad.

Committee Reviews Hindi Implementation

The inspection, led by Committee Dr. Dinesh Sharma संयोजक / Convenorपहली उप-समिति First Sub-Committee, aimed to review the implementation of the Official Languages Act, 1963, and assess the use of Hindi in official communications, documents, and transactions.

During the Inspection, the Committee Focused on:

  • Use of Hindi in official letters, reports, and documents
  • Working knowledge of Hindi among staff
  • Implementation of Hindi language in office work
  • Availability of Hindi language training programs

Based on the inspection, the Committee will submit recommendations to enhance Hindi implementation in Central Government offices.

About the Parliamentary Official Language Committee

The Committee ensures implementation of the Official Languages Act, 1963, and promotes Hindi as an official language.The Parliamentary Official Language Committee was formed under the Official Language Act of 1963 in the year 1976. It is a parliamentary committee with special powers. It consists of 30 members of Parliament, with 20 from the Lok Sabha and 10 from the Rajya Sabha. The Honorable Home Minister is the chairperson of this committee.

To effectively manage the monitoring of the implementation of the Official Language program, this committee has been divided into three sub-committees. These three sub-committees have now monitored more than 16,774 official offices and have also conducted approximately 882 significant inspections, which include the Chief Justices of High Courts, Chief Ministers of states, and Governors. Based on this work, the committee has now submitted its report to the Honorable President of India.

The recommendations made in the report have received directives from the President. The main objective of this committee is to evaluate the progress of the use of the official language in the functioning of the government.
